It’s an outstanding Saturday of racing. Giga Kick highlights the meeting at Moonee Valley, but will the star sprinter be suited by the tight turning track?

Best Bet

2. Rothfire
Moonee Valley R8 (4.15pm)

Rothfire looks terrific value to make it back to back wins in the McEwen Stakes. Odds-on favourite Giga Kick is a star, but 1000m round Moonee Valley is not an ideal scenario for him. Conversely, Rothfire should get all favours, he can lead but doesn’t have to – as he showed winning this race last year. He comes off an outstanding winter campaign and flies first up.

Recommended Price: $4.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

More Racing Tips

1. Apulia
Moonee Valley R1 (12.10pm)

Mark Zahra has had five winners from his last five rides for the Hayes stable and they can keep that run going with Apulia. The colt was an effortless winner at short odds first up at Cranbourne and showed good ability at two, finishing second behind Veight in the Group 2 Sires Produce. Expect him to take up the running and prove hard to catch.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

6. I Am Me
Rosehill R6 (2.45pm)

I Am Me continues to raise the bar and the mare can win again here. She’s now won five of her last six starts with the only defeat in that time coming in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate. She has excellent tactical speed, and she can run slick time from the front. That’s going to make her hard to beat in near anything she contests, especially this race.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

18. Ashfall
Rosehill R7 (3.20pm)

Ashfall was a most impressive maiden winner prior to his spell and looks a super promising type. In the long term I expect him to be better over further but it’s interesting that Chris Waller has scratched him from what looked some winnable midweek assignment to run in this Group 3 instead. Looks worth a play at nice double figure odds.

Recommended Price: $9.00
Confidence Level: 3/5

7. Berkeley Square
Moonee Valley R7 (3.35pm)

Berkeley Square gets back to Moonee Valley for the first time since winning the Group 2 Vase over this track and trip on Cox Plate day last year. His two runs this prep have been excellent, and he draws ideally. Looks a perfect race for him.

Recommended Price: $3.20
Confidence Level: 4/5

15. Deny Knowledge
Moonee Valley R8 (4.30pm)

Not a strong edition of the Feehan despite the capacity field and Deny Knowledge looks an excellent chance. The mare continues to improve despite being six years of age and she gave nothing else a chance when winning here first up. Yes, she has to step up to weight for age but she looks capable of doing so.

Recommended Price: $6.50
Confidence Level: 3/5

7. Madame Pommery
Rosehill R9 (4.30pm)

Chris Waller has kept Madame Pommery fresh off the back of an excellent first up run. She was just held up for clear running at a key time but did a great job to get beaten just a nose by Pericles – and was unlucky not to win. They cleared out from the rest of the field and the strength of the form was reinforced when Pericles won last week. In this race, she will need some luck from the low draw, but is well capable of winning if she gets it.

Recommended Price: $5.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5
