It’s the last Saturday without a Group 1 until the end of the spring but there is plenty of quality with group races in both states. Expect soft ground at Moonee Valley and heavy at Randwick.

Shalaman put the writing on the wall with a terrific last start second at this track and he should be very hard to beat. Ben Melham took him to the front and was only run down in the last stride. The gelding should be fitter for that and with key rivals likely to get back in the run, he should be able to lead all the way.

Expecting leaders to be suited at the Valley and Major Beel fits the bill. The Waterhouse/Bott stable have sent him down to Melbourne off the back of a last start third at Rosehill beaten about a head. Expect Damien Oliver to fire him out of the machine and take all the catching.
Recommended Price: $3.20
Confidence Level: 3.5/5
Through Irish Eyes has been up for a long time but the Maher/Eustace stable are experts at keeping horses up and he will be well suited to what should be a tough staying contest here. Expect Jason Collett to push forward from the low draw and while he has not seen genuinely wet ground, breeding and everything else suggests he will appreciate it.
Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 3/5
Mr Brightside looks close to a good thing in this year’s Feehan Stakes. The Doncaster winner earlier this year, he also won the PB Lawrence first up leading into this race. Every other rival comes here without the benefit of a run. Expect Craig Williams to press forward and possibly lead, at least sit outside, and he should prove way too good.
Recommended Price: $1.80
Confidence Level: 5/5
She’s Extreme was an outstanding two year old filly and can resume with a win here. The Champagne Stakes winner – and Sires Produce runner up – trialled very nicely against some quality opposition recently and while she likely get back in the run, she can storm over the top of them late.
Recommended Price: $4.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5
Zoustyle has brilliant early speed and should be able to find the front from the inside draw. A first up and 1000m specialist, he showed brilliant early speed to win a recent trial, so suspect he is going as well as ever.
Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 3/5
Numerian is a progressive import who looks capable of taking out the Chelmsford Stakes first up at big odds. The gelding won his last two starts before a spell and loves wet ground. Expect Tommy Berry to take up the running from the inside draw and prove hard to run down.
Recommended Price: $7.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

Do You Reckon was a disappointing flop last time out but he is capable of bouncing back here on a firmer surface. The Julius Sandhu trained gelding won well at Sandown two starts back and his best form is certainly capable. At big odds, he looks a nice each way play and certainly one for the quaddie.
