Racing comes from Sandown where the traditional Australia Day program is being run while out at Great Western it is Cup day.
Best Bet
Kokonotsu looks a terrific bet in the Great Western Cup. The track notoriously favours on speed runners and he has the early speed to find the front. The gelding comes off a very good second in the Burrumbeet Cup where he was only second up. At peak fitness now, he should lead and take all the catching.

Loved the recent jumpout of Miss Gladiola at Caulfield where she showed brilliant gate speed to jump in front then quickened nicely when asked to in the straight. An impeccably bred filly, she draws ideally and while this is a tough race to debut in she looks a superb type.

Ostile just about should have won last start at Naracoorte, just getting on the wrong back and being dragged through the field at the wrong time. Third up now he should be at peak fitness and while he has drawn wide, can press forward to sit outside the leader. Looks huge odds here.

It was impossible not to be impressed by this mare’s latest win at Flemington where she sat wide the duration and really won easily. This race is another step up again but in present form the Patrick and Michella Payne trained five year old gets her chance.

Sunshineinmypocket resumes off a long spell but he showed a stack of ability in his first prep, winning his first three races before having no luck in the fourth. All the form has stood up very well too. Trainer Ciaron Maher has brought him along slowly but finds a lovely race first up, expect him to get back and be steaming home late.
