Betseeker has you covered for free expert horse racing tips and best bets at Flemington.
The final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival sees outstanding fields set to clash in the Champions races, the Sprint, Mile and Stakes. With perfect weather around, we should be looking at a good racing surface.
Best Bet
Expect Nature Strip to assert himself once more as Australia’s premier sprinter. Yes, the champion had his colours lowered in the Everest, but he was left a sitting shot after a wide run off a fearsome tempo. Back down the straight track where has been so dominant, and with an ideal draw towards the outside of the field, he should be too good once again.

Sandpaper didn’t quite see out the mile last Saturday in the Carbine Club so for James Cummings to be backing him up within the week over 1400m looks a perfect scenario. His previous form is excellent for this. Unfortunately the barrier is far from ideal, but that’s why James McDonald earns the big money.

Persan could have contested the Melbourne Cup but I like the fact that the Maher/Eustace stable held him back for this race. The veteran stayer has been racing consistently this prep but he always saves his best form for Flemington, where he has won four times from twelve appearances. With a perfect draw and Cup winning jockey Mark Zahra up, he will take plenty of beating.

Alligator Blood is in the midst of an outstanding campaign and should prove hard to beat once again. His last two starts proved that he doesn’t quite see out 2000m against the best of the best, with 1600m seemingly his optimum trip. The gelding comes back to that distance here and should prove very hard to run down in the Champions Mile.

I’m Thunderstruck was clearly the run of the race in the Cox Plate and looks a good chance to reverse the result against Anamoe. Once again Anamoe will get the run of the race from barrier four, but by this time of the day run on horses should get their chance and I’m Thunderstruck has a phenomenal record at Flemington. It should be a great race.

Ex-South African galloper Najem Suhail took a couple of runs to find his best in Australia but finally delivered at Sale last start, recording a dominant all the way win and smashing the clock in the process. From barrier 17 down the straight he should be in the perfect part of the track by this time of day and should take all the catching.
