Saturday’s best bet flew home last start, but a gear change should see her sit much closer in the run this time. There also looks to be excellent value available in the Missile Stakes at Randwick and the Aurie’s Star Handicap at Flemington.

Veranskova produced an outstanding performance first up behind Squid Game. The Cindy Alderson trained mare blew the start but stormed home to finish second, beaten a nose. She has since been back to the jumpouts and got away much cleaner, with the assistance of a barrier blanket. This is a big field, but there is more chaff than wheat and if she gets away cleanly she should be winning.

Life Well Lived comes to this Highway race in superb form, having absolutely bolted in last start at Dubbo. The jockey barely moved on him there and clearly he has more to give. Hugh Bowman takes the ride here and the extra trip should present no obstacles. Looks the perfect race for him.

Sirius Suspect is a superior straight track performer who can record yet another win at his favourite hunting ground. This is a weak race for Listed grade but he stays on 54Kg. There is very little speed here for a 1200m race so Ethan Brown should be in an advantageous position relative to key rivals King of Sparta and Shooting for Gold.

Alcyone got the money for us first up and there is no reason to jump off here. The Godolphin galloper faces a class rise but he is very attractively weighted with 50.5Kg after the claim for in-form apprentice Reece Jones. Look for him to be storming home late in the Godolphin blue.

Count De Rupee flies fresh and looks well capable of taking out this race first up. The Robert and Luke Price trained gelding was a group winner over the Queensland carnival and should have plenty of residual fitness. There looks to be plenty of pace on here and that should set it up for him to run over them.
