It’s an outstanding day of racing with Group 1 events in both Melbourne and Sydney. At Flemington, the Turnbull Stakes is a key lead up to the Cups and Cox Plate, while at Randwick, the Epsom and Metropolitan take centre stage. Flemington should be perfect for racing, but with plenty of rain around, Randwick will be heavy.

Pride of Jenni ran second in this race last year at massive odds and looks to be going even better in the hands of the Maher/Eustace stable. She was an impressive all the way winner last start at Caulfield and should have no problem finding the front here.

It is surprising there is much in the market between Sumatra and She’s Licketysplit. Sumatra beat home the Kiwi filly last time at Caulfield and was stronger through the line, and she certainly gives the impression that she will be suited getting out to a mile at Flemington. The Godolphin team is in supreme form at present.

Vow and Declare produced an excellent run last start and the 2019 Melbourne Cup winner appears to be back on track. This is far and away the most suitable race he has contested since then in terms of weight, track, barrier draw and so on, and he was only second up last start so should have improvement in him still.

Cross Talk was a touch disappointing last start but he is a supreme wet tracker and can bounce back to his best here. Expect Rachel King to go straight to the front on him and with just 51Kg, take plenty of running down. Gai Waterhouse has a phenomenal record in this race and I expect him to peak on the day.

Great House was terrific first up over 1700m and a repeat of that effort should see him in the finish here. He will get back, but should be rattling home late. Chapada finished third in a stronger edition of this race last year and was brave in defeat last start at Caulfield when caught wide for much of the race. That form ties in well with the favourite, Gold Trip.

Stockman is an absolute mudlark who looks very well placed in this year’s Metropolitan with 56.5Kg. The runner up in the Group 1 Tancred at WFA in the spring, the Joe Pride trained gelding has had an ideal preparation for this, most recently hitting the line well in the Kingston Town. Ticks every box.

Zoutori had absolutely no luck last start when he was severely interfered with twice. Under the circumstances, his effort to pick himself up and get beaten less than three lengths was a good one. A straight track specialist, he can bounce back here at nice odds.
