It’s an outstanding day of racing in both Sydney and Melbourne, with the Lightning being the highlight down south, while up north it’s the Apollo. Both tracks should be just into the soft range.
Best Bet
The best bet comes up early with Revelare in the first at Flemington. The gelding is looking for four straight and comes here off the back of a terrific win at Sandown where he broke the track record. Everything suggests he should be better at 2000m and from barrier five he will get every chance.

Loved the recent debut of United States at Randwick where he absolutely savaged the line over 1000m. While he should want longer in time, the extra 100m should be right up his alley. Looks a colt with enormous upside and even though this is strong he can go close to breaking his maiden at start two.

Poison Chalice steps up to 1400m after what was really a de facto trial in the Australia Stakes and looks very nicely placed down on the limit. He loves a big track and a strong tempo and he should get both in this. Nice play at near double figure odds.

Lady of Camelot has yet to win a race since her Golden Slipper victory but every race she has contested has either been a Group 1 or worth $1m or more. Included in that are terrific runs in the Everest and Coolmore, plus she lost no admirers with her most recent run in the $3m Sunlight in Queensland. Back to fillies company, she should be too good.

Mornington Glory looks the overs in the Lightning Stakes. The gelding has won all five starts at this trip, most notably the Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley last spring. He should go forward here and be sitting just off Way To The Stars, and be in the right position to pounce when the whips are cracking.

Fascinating edition of the Apollo Stakes with every runner first up from a spell – so don’t be surprised to see some big odds fluctuations. First up last spring it was Via Sistina who got the better of Fangirl but with bigger fish to fry later in the spring it wouldn’t shock if Via went right back to last here in a race devoid of much speed. If Fangirl can position just a little closer in the run, that can be the key to victory.
