Group 1 racing is on the program in both Melbourne and Sydney with Caulfield holding the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, while at Randwick the highlight is the time honoured George Main Stakes.

Surefire had no chance on a biased track in the Chelmsford Stakes where nothing drawn wide or coming from back in the field could make ground. Under the circumstances, his effort to finish 5th was still a good one. On a fairer track here, out to 2000m, the talented import looks primed to break through for his second Australian win.

Fengarada comes from the John Leek stable which is in supreme form, with seven winners from its last eight starters. Fengarada himself is airborne, coming off a last start 7.5 length demolition job at Sandown. In a moderate field he looks well placed to repeat the dose.

Top Ranked has had two runs in Australia and performed very well in both. Trained by Annabel Neasham, the now seven year old comes in here first up and has trialled well. Hugh Bowman rides, and wet ground should hold no fears.

Crystal Pegasus returns to Melbourne where he posted a trio of dominant victories in the autumn, most notably a Mornington Cup victory which booked him a ticket into the Caulfield Cup. The Chris Waller trained gelding was a forgive run first up on unsuitable going at Randwick and is capable of improving drastically here.

There is never much between Eduardo and Nature Strip and with the race fitness edge, Eduardo has to be the bet here. The Joe Pride trained gelding downed his great rival in this race last year and showed he is going as well as ever with a dominant Concorde Stakes win last start.

Ayrton has long had a reputation that perhaps exceeded his performance but he looks excellent value in this race. The Price/Kent trained five year old does his best work fresh and at this track – unbeaten at both. Drawn well, he should get the right run midfield and his trials have been up to the mark.

Chain of Lightning looks like a coming Group 1 winner and she can continue on her winning way here. Unbeaten from five starts, her last start win in the Cockram was dominant and she strikes a comparable field here. The Moody/Kah combination is on fire at present.
