Moonee Valley specialist Smokin’ Romans looks beautifully placed in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup. Due to the quirks of the set weights and penalties scheme he comes in here with just 56.5Kg, which is ideal as he is nearly always topweight in suitable contests due to winning the G1 Turnbull some years ago. His last run at Caulfield was excellent and he should get a great run on speed.
