It’s Mildura Cup day and we’ve got tips for all the key races, include a great value best bet in the big one.
Best Bet
Blaze A Trail is a pure firm tracker so Mildura will be the ideal track for him. The Maher/Eustace trained four year has been racing really well when he has struck firm tracks, with wins at both Rosehill and Caulfield this prep. He looks nicely in with just 54Kg and should get the perfect run midfield from the good draw. At $7 or better in early markets he looks terrific value.

More Racing Tips
Two of Spirit De Lune’s three runs for new trainer Heath Chalmers have been excellent, most recently a second placing over a mile at Murtoa. A wet track at Bendigo was the only failure. The extra trip here looks right up his alley and as you’d expect for a 2000m maiden, this is not a strong race.
Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5
Jay Gatsby was enormous when winning last start at Warracknabeal. The Tom Dabernig trained gelding was caught four wide without cover throughout, but toughed it out brilliantly to win. He’s a five time city placegetter with his old stable so clearly has good ability. This is tougher but he is well drawn and gets the claim for Maddi Price.
Recommended Price: $6.00
Confidence Level: 3/5
Miss Cheviots could well have won at Donald last start with clear going. While she did save ground for much of the race, she couldn’t get clear when it mattered and ran fourth, beaten only a short margin. The extra 200m looks right up her alley and with even luck, she should be able to make her presence felt.
