Racing on Friday comes from Ballarat on the synthetic, as well as Canberra where the ground will be very heavy.

Hauteur did an excellent job first up for new trainer Matthew Dale and looks well placed here on her home track. The ex-Victorian struck a strong race first up at Forbes but closed off well to run second. From barrier three Jay Ford will give her every chance in the run. The query is the ground, but if she gets through it she looks awfully hard to beat. Dale had a 27% strike rate at his home track last season.

Mahsinger looks the clear value in the opener at Canberra on Friday. The Wagga trained gelding has been in good form at his last couple, finishing second at Wagga and then Ballarat. Critically, he handles wet ground and looks well weighted with 55Kg. Jeff Penza should give him the gun run from barrier two.
Recommended Price: $4.80

Vadarchie is a lightly raced stayer of promise who should be able to beat what you might generously call a field of battlers. The Price/Kent trained four year old ran second first up at Pakenham after being a huge drifter in the betting, suggesting he will have taken good improvement from that hit out. Out to 2100m looks ideal and he’s well in after the claim for Matt Chadwick.

The McEvoy stable has a very strong hand in this race with three runners but My Boy Birmingham clearly looks the pick of them. The gelding comes off a career best effort finishing second in a very strong Mildura Cup. Back to his preferred surface, he should prove too strong.
