Eternal Flame was no match for Va Via first up but there is no shame in that and she wasn’t well in under the set weight conditions either. This benchmark race is much more suitable, especially with Damian Lane taking the ride. He should position the mare, who flies second up, back of midfield and be too strong late.

Untethered stepped up to the 2400m last time at Sandown and led for most of the way, only running into one late who got over the top of him. That run should only have further improved the gelding and his on pace style should be a big advantage. Will take catching.

This is a handy race but the ex-Kiwi Carbonados is extremely promising. He was a huge drifter in the betting first up, which tells me he still has plenty of improvement in him, but defied that to produce a dominant performance in a $175K race at Geelong. Perfectly drawn here, he might be too sharp over them with the race fitness edge.

Yonce did everything you could ask of her first up over 1100m, running through the line well in a race that is far short of her optimum trip. Getting out to 1400m here is much more suitable and I like the fact the stable have given her a jumpout between runs. She is a class act and her best form wins this.
