Runaway - Expert Jumps Tips

Warrnambool is Australia’s greatest jumping carnival and all the tips you need to back a winner over the sticks are here. There is plenty of rain forecast for Wednesday.

Nobody covers the Bool like Betseeker! Check out all our Warrnambool racing tips for all three days of the carnival now.

Race 5 – BM120 Steeplechase (3450m)

Runaway looks a pretty good thing here, even with the big weight. He would have been entitled to go to the Brierly based on form so the fact he runs here is pretty enticing. This is his steeplechase debut but he has been a more than handy hurdler, he’s even a Geelong Cup winner on the flat, so he has earned the big weight and his trials have been excellent. Nothing else in this field is close to being in his class.

Strategy: Load up on Runaway.

Race 7 – Galleywood Hurdle (3200m)

Some call this race the Cox Plate of Australian jumps racing and it’s a fair description. Here are my thoughts on each runner.

1. Saunter Boy

Beaten favourite in this race last year but he announced that he is back as good as ever with a first up win at Pakenham. Gets a weight swing on Out and Dreaming from that race and he is proven at this track. The one to beat.

2. Gobstopper

Won this race in 2020 but missed all of last year and has looked a long way off his best this season. Can’t have him.

3. Big Blue

Returns to hurdling for the first time in a long time after being a touch disappointing as a steeplechaser last season. Have to respect the stable but one I would be keen to oppose at the price.

4. Out and Dreaming

There was very little between him and Saunter Boy last time but the market hasn’t missed him. The weight swing against him doesn’t help and suspect that Saunter Boy will prevail once again. Clear second pick though.

5. Tamarack

Showed real promise towards the end of last season but he was very ordinary at his first jumping start this year. Wait until he shows something.

6. St Arnicca

Had his chance and seemingly failed to measure up when a distant fourth behind Saunter Boy and Out and Dreaming. Could run in the top four but not a winning chance for mine.

7. Eckhart

Super consistent jumper but probably lacks the class required to finish in the business end of things. Place hope.

8. Coleridge

Making up the numbers here.

9. Annunciate

Been a bit disappointing at both jumps runs this year and I don’t think he is a genuine stayer, which makes him vulnerable in high pressure races. $11 in early markets is insane unders. More like a $41 chance.

Galleywood Hurdle Tips

1. Saunter Boy
2. Out and Dreaming
3. Eckhart

Strategy: Back Saunter Boy.
