Jumps racing heads to Sale on Wednesday with some well credentialled flat performers making their debut over the sticks
Race 1 – Ecycle Solutions Maiden Hurdle, 3240m
Interesting maiden hurdle. Royal Crown is having his first start over jumps and is the obvious pick. Mick Kent doesn’t train many jumpers but he has a very good record with them. Not sure I could take $1.95 though, his trials have been good without being outstanding. Abreed and Aquila Volare have shown ability in maiden hurdles, while Zoffala is another well bred debutant. No bet race for me.
Strategy: No Bet.
Race 2 – Hammonds Paints Maiden Hurdle, 3500m
Mahamedeis catches the eye as a debutant having won $1.2 million in prizemoney on the flat. His trials have been good. The value lies with Aquileon, he finished third on his jumping debut at Warrnambool behind Teofilo Star, the strength of that form is obvious and he should be better for the experience. Chances also to the debutants Poleaxed and That’s Incranibull.
Strategy: Back Aquileon.
Race 3 – Ecycle Solutions 0-114 Hurdle, 3500m
Cernan shaped as one of the best prospects in the sport after winning his maiden hurdle in late 2021 but his 2022 season was abysmal. However, Eric Musgrove appears to have him back firing on all cylinders having won by five lengths last start on the flat. He has to translate it to the jumps but given he is trained by Musgrove, I fully expect him to do it.
Strategy: Back Cernan.
Race 4 – Gippsland Times Steeplechase, 3240m
Castrofrancaru was dominant winning at his ‘chasing debut and looks a stone cold moral here. Something would have to go wrong for him not to be beating this field.
Strategy: Back Castrofrancaru.
