Round 1 of the season was an absolute belter and we have a tremendous slate for Round 2 including the Dragons and Roosters on Saturday afternoon.

Tigers v Bulldogs
Canterbury were outstanding in their inaugural NRLW match, winning 26-12 over Newcastle in a score that arguably flattered the Knights. The Bulldogs had 58% of the ball and ran for nearly 400m more. Andie Robinson was an absolute star at fullback while forwards Angelia Teakaraanga-Katoa an Alexia Tauaneai both ran for over 215m. The Tigers really gutsed it out against the Broncos but were ultimately beaten 28-4 where they were outrun by over 600. The Dogs pack will lay too big a platform. Seven of the last 10 Tigers games have been 16 point losses.

Andie Robinson ran for over 250m last week and has a try in her three starts as an NRLW fullback.
Moana Courtenay scored a double in her NRLW debut
Raiders v Sharks
Both the Raiders and Sharks went down in the opening week of the NRLW. Canberra went down at home to the Dragons in a game that got away from them late while the Sharks were dreadfully wasteful against Parramatta in an inept display marked by a lack of fitness, a lack of nous and utter selfishness. The Sharks have won both meetings by 12-plus but suspect the Raiders are a better team – at the very least they are better coached.

Madison Bartlett is the outright second highest scorer in NRLW history with 27.
Hollie-Mae Dodd has just three NRLW tries but scored last week and has seven in eight games for England.
Dragons’ v Roosters
St George Illawarra may well be the surprise packets of this season. They were the most impressive team in the opening week. It was not only regular stars like Teagan Berry (247m, a try, a try assist, 10 tackle busts) and Bobbi Law (130 metres including 57 post contact) but saw Indie Bostock make an immediate stamp with two tries and an assist on a debut that also featured five tackle busts. The Roosters have won the last four meetings – the last three by 20-plus – but they will miss Jayme Fressard badly and this is a vastly improved Dragons side.

Teagan Berry has 29 tries in 32 games with her speed leading her to the top of the all-time tryscoring list.
Olivia Kernick has seven tries in 12 games across the last two seasons an is always a ridiculous price to score a try.
Cowboys v Knights
The Cowboys are a complete chips-in job here. North Queensland have not shown a lot in their short existence but moving Jakiya Whitfeld to fullback was a very smart move while Kira Dibb is as good a halfback as there is in the competition. Newcastle really looked lost with Tamika Upton and Hannah Southwell. They get Olivia Higgins back this week but away in Townsville they look up against it.

Jakiya Whitfeld is a massive chance of the Dally M Medal this year after shifting to fullback. She scored in the opener and has 11 tries in 19 games.
Krystal Blackwell looked much improved in Round 1, scoring her second try in her sort NRLW career.
Warriors v Eels
The toughest game to find a winner this weekend is the Warriors and Eels. New Zealand could not have had a tougher return to the NRLW after a five-year absence when drawing the Roosters in Sydney. The Warriors put up a decent showing but went down 30-6 on the back of some poor tackling. The Eels got a surprise win but it is unlikely they will get the time and space the Sharks offered them last week. Lean the outsider here.

Patricia Maliepo was the Warriors’ best in their opener against the Roosters, scoring their only try and breaking five tackles.
Rory Owen has five tries in 10 games and looked super in Round 1.
Titans v Broncos
Brisbane opened their season with a strong 28-4 win over the Wests Tigers in a match that saw the Broncos waste plenty of opportunities but , by the same token, create plenty. Tamika Upton was at her dangerous best while the pack just rolled through the Tigers. The Titans couldn’t manage much against the Cowboys and having no Mato or Pelite is going to hurt them all season. The Broncos won their last meeting 44-4 and something similar would not surprise.

Kerri Johnson enjoyed a strong debut where she scored twice.
Chelsea Lenaruzzi is an underrated tryscorer with eight tries in 21 games across the last three seasons.
