The Sky Blues secured the series with a gritty 14-10 win in Game 2 at Suncorp and should run riot in Game 3 with Queensland missing so much talent.
Best Bet
It is impossible to go past the team changes in this one as the primary reason for siding with the big minus even after Queensland covered both big pluses in close-fought affairs.
Queensland are without arguably their two best players in Tamika Upton and Julia Robinson and with Mackenzie Weale also missing, the Maroons seem set to be completely outclassed with Destiny Mino-Sinapati and Shenae Ciesiolka no Upton or Robinson.
New South Wales have turned the tables on Queensland in recent years by lifting the shield in three of the last four seasons and made it four in five seasons with a 14-10 win at Suncorp in Game 2.
The Blues handed the reins to Roosters premiership winning coach John Strange – the best coach in the women’s game – and it reaped immediate rewards with NSW winning the two live games of the series by 20 points last season before winning the first two this season making it a perfect four-from-four in live matches. He was disappointed in dead rubber loss last year so expect the Sky Blues to go out with a better mentality this time around.
The Sky Blues going in unchanged is a huge advantage.
Talent alone should see New South Wales win this by double digits.
Same Game Multi
In the 15 women’s Origin matches played, just two have topped 34 points.
Jaime Chapman has five tries in 10 Origins, crossing in Game 2, and has 14 tries in 22 games across the last two seasons.
Jess Sergis has scored a try in four of her last five Origins and has been the best player this series.
Value Bet
Jess Sergis was absolutely robbed of top honours in Game 2 with the judges plumping for Jess Southwell, who did absolutely nothing, ahead of Sergis and Olivia Kernick. Sergis went ballistic at Suncorp. She scored a try, set up the other, ran for 146m and broke seven tackles. In the long and storied history of Origin player of the match robberies, this stands tall as the worst of all-time. If she plays decent she should be rewarded for the utter thievery.
