England and Austalia meet for the first time – incredibly – since 2017 with the famed Wembley to host the first Test. This is the first Kangaroo Tour and Ashes series since 2003.

The Kangaroos rightly go in heavy favourites but this line looks far too big.

This is not a vintage Australian team. Kevin Walters makes his debut as coach and plenty of big names are missing – including a ton who have chosen to play for a Pacific nation over the Kangaroos. Four players will debut while there is not a lot of experience in the pack.

England have not named their team at the time of writing and made some very ordinary selection calls with their squad but they did signal their intention: to use experience to try and bash Australia and keep this close.

Since moving from Great Britain to England in 2008, the home team has lost all 11 Tests against Australia. Recent Tests though have been close though with four of the last five Australian wins of 14 or less.

England have won their last seven Tests and 14 of their last 16. Sweeps of Tonga and Samoa should not be underestimated.

Australia has not lost in the UK in two decades but have lost Tests to New Zealand in 2018 and 2023 and Tonga in 2019.

Jack Welsby, the St Helens ace, has been a double digit tryscorer in four of the last five seasons. He is a livewire who will be central to the England attack.

Josh Addo-Carr has earned a surprise recall to the national team after last donning the green and gold in 2022. He has 12 tries in five Tests and comes off a season where he scored 19 tries in 22 games.

Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth is arguably the best centre in the world and gets a great matchup here no matter what side of the field he plays on with neither Broncos centre a reliable defender. Farnworth had a great season scoring 12 tries in 19 games. He has six tries in six Tests for England including doubles in two of his last three.
