When the squads were announced for this year’s Pacific Cup, a blanket could have been thrown over them all, such was the evenness.

So it is stunning to see Tonga such pronounced outsiders against New Zealand.

Tonga were admittedly very disappointing against Samoa but well and truly have the talent to bounce back. New Zealand were lucky enough to get away with the win against Samoa.

This match is in Auckland but the crowd will be nearly exclusively Tongan.

These teams met in last year’s Pacific Championships and Tonga won 25-24 in one of the nation’s most famous victory. It was their second win in the last four Tests against the Kiwis.
