New Zealand look to exact some measure of revenge on last year’s disappointing Pacific Championships campaign by claiming this year’s crown. To do that they will need to find a win against Samoa in their opener.
Both the Kiwis and Toa Samoa are in very good stead here.
New Zealand are much improved with Dylan Brown, Kieran Foran, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Jeremy Marshall-King, Moses Leota and Briton Nikora replacing the likes of Peta Hiku, Shaun Johnson, Griffin Neame and Kodi Nikorima.
Samoa welcome in Payne Haas with Brian To’o, Izack Tago, Murray Taulagi, Josh Papalii, Junior Paulo and Jaydn Su’A a big upgrade on the team that toured England.
Happy to be with the more consistent New Zealand here. They are 5-0 all-time against Samoa with four of those being by 18-plus. The Kiwis won 50-0 when the teams met last in Round 23.
The Kiwis have lost just once since 2018 to a team not called Austalia. With Samoa coming off a poor series, New Zealand are the bet.
Same Game Multi
Casey McLean has been an elite tryscorer this year with 16 tries in 23 games.
Ronaldo Mulitalo has 100 tries in 136 NRL matches.
Isaiah Papalii finished the season scoring in five of his last seven games.
Value Bet
Dylan Brown comes into this off a mixed season where his form was atrocious, he got dropped to reserve grade and left the Eels in less-than-ideal circumstances but did sign a 10-year deal with the Knights that will set him up for life. Brown has historically been a strong tryscoring No.6 and is a great value bet to get over against Samoa.
