Pacific Championships – Australia v New Zealand – Women’s Pacific Cup Final 2025

The Jillaroos were off their game last week when winning over the Kiwi Ferns but should be much better with the most important of ins and the game back in Sydney.

The Jillaroos might be the most dominant team in Australian sport but they were all at sea last week in Auckland when sneaking home 10-4 in an underwhelming showing.

Australia were a long way off their best against Samoa and still won 60-0 but that poor execution nearly handed Australia a rare loss. There were excuses though with Tamika Upton a late withdrawal and Keeley Davis going down in the opening set forcing Quincy Dodd to play the entire game.

New Zealand were appalling in the first half against Samoa when trailing 20-0 but fought back to win 22-20 before again showing gumption but a lack of poise in losing 10-4 to the Jillaroos in Auckland.

For reasons known only to Ricky Henry, he has dropped Patricia Maliepo and Leanne Tufuga, two of the Kiwi Ferns best.

This is a worst Kiwi Ferns team. Upton is back. The game is in Sydney. Yet this line is eight points shy of what it was last week.

The Jillaroos have won 10 of their last 11 against the Kiwi Ferns. Three of the last five wins by 14-plus.

Australia are just too strong for this sub-standard New Zealand team that have dropped two of their best players.

Julia Robinson has 20 tries in 12 internationals and scored a double against Samoa two weeks back.
