Few saw last Monday’s ambush of the Eels coming but such was the way it occurred that it may signal a new and improved Tigers mob.
There were a few reasons to take hope. The side was much better with Jackson Hastings in charge and Luke Brooks used as a running half. And there was a real commitment to the cause in both attack and defence.
These teams have set at the opposite ends of the ladder over the last decade but the Tigers have tended to play them close. The Tigers have covered nine of their last 13 against the Rabbitohs with the last three at CommBank all decided by eight or fewer.
Souths still have a few stars but they are thin on their edges and off their bench. The line here looks far too big.

Walker has 70 tries in 148 games and still has two tries in six games this year despite being in the worst form of his career.

Leilua was arguably the best of the Tigers pack last week. Among his highlights was his first try of the season, a bullocking effort that was as controversial as it was impressive. He has scored five tries in a season in three of his last four though so can find his way to the tryline and up against Taane Milne is an exciting proposition.
