There is just a little too much respect being afforded the Wests Tigers in this one as they open the season at home in what is sure to be a packed Leichhardt.

The Tigers made a leap to midtable last season after three straight wooden spoons and many expect that improvement to continue but the loss of Shane Richardson is an awful sign and a return to the doldrums could be on the cards.

At any rate, there is little confidence the Tigers can perform when favoured. They have covered just three of their last 13 when the elect including a 1-3 cover record as a favourite at Leichhardt.

The Cowboys are a team that should strike fear into the Tigers too. Ever since the Tigers put 66 on them, the Cowboys have won the last five, scoring 32-plus in each. North Queensland have won three of the last four at Leichhardt.

North Queensland have been a good bounceback team under Todd Payten, covering at 65% off a double digit loss.

Confidence is high that the Cowboys can get the job done.
