Schedulemakers have nailed the opener to Round 17 with Penrith hosting ‘new Penrith’ Canterbury at a time the Panthers are climbing up the ladder after a slow start and the Bulldogs sit atop the premiership ladder.
There is plenty of crossover between the two teams with the Bulldogs very much trying to recast themselves in Penrith’s image. Architect Phil Gould rebuilt the Panthers and is doing the same at the Bulldogs. Cameron Ciraldo was a long-time assistant at Penrith. Stephen Crichton, Matt Burton and Viliame Kikau all won premierships at Penrith.
The similarities should see a low-scoring game here with both teams defence-first sides.
These two have historically had under matchups with the under hitting in 11 of the last 15.
The under is 26-13 when the Bulldogs are off a win and 24-14 when they are off conceding 18 or fewer.
In the 13 games Grant Atkins has refereed Penrith in since 2021, the under has hit in 12.

Tom Jenkins is flying with eight tries in his last six appearances.
Jacob Preston is a super tryscorer for an edge backrower with five tries in nine appearances.
Value Bet
Big Harry Hayes is emerging as an outstanding young talent at the Bulldogs. He has scored just two ties in 21 top grade games but both have come this year and he has a very good tryscoring record at NSW Cup level with 10 tries in 26 matches. The $9 on offer is massive.
