The Broncos and Cowboys was once the top derby in the NRL with a magic run of last-second wins and close games.
Those days are long gone with both teams barely making the finals in the 2020s but there is an air of importance around this one as both clubs battle again for relevance.
The Cowboys’ coach Todd Payten is looking at the hangman tie his noose following a diabolical start for the club. Michael Maguire has just taken the reins at the Broncos but after a rampaging win in Round 1 the club was brought back to earth last week when battered from pillar to post by the Raiders.
Brisbane have dominated this matchup recently with four straight wins of 12 or more and they have covered the last 12 so if they laid the smack down on the Cowboys, it would not be a great surprise.
There are a few things working for the Cowboys here though. Getting Jake Clifford back at halfback is beneficial. The Cowboys need some direction. North Queensland are 10-3 ATS off scoring 12 or fewer and have covered nine of 13 getting a start of at least eight points.
Brisbane have also covered just one of four as a favourite of 16 or more.
Confidence is low but the Cowboys are the bet.

Robert Derby is a genuine talent with plenty of speed and height. He has six tries in seven Tests for PNG.
Jesse Arthars has five tries in his last three games.
Value Bet
Former Bronco Tom Dearden has not feared playing his former team with three tries in seven games against Brisbane. He is a runner and the Broncos defence is hardly lockdown. Lovely price.
