How to Find More Winners in NRL Try Scorer Betting

NRL Try Scorer markets are some of the most popular to bet on NRL matches with many different try scoring options available. These can be bet as singles or included in Same Game Multis.

Market Types

For many years the most popular betting NRL try scoring betting option was first try scorer. First try scorer is self-explanatory: who will score the first try in a given NRL match. There can be only one winner and the prices on offer allow for some big wins.

The same holds true to the last try scorer. There is only one last try scorer. If it lands, the payoff is large with the favourite rarely shorter than $7.

In recent years, particularly since the advent of the Same Game Multi, the anytime try scorer option has become an incredibly popular betting option. There can be many winners and there is clearly a strong correlation between the line and total when betting an anytime try scorer. The most popular form of Same Game Multi betting is bundling together two or three tryscorers.

Other try scoring markets that are popular include an individual player to score two-plus or three-plus tries, a player to score first for their team or a player to score first in the second half.

Who Should You Back in NRL Try Scorer Markets?

Wingers are typically favoured in all try scoring markets, particularly those with a strong reputation as a try scorer and those on teams with strong attacks. The majority of teams are better off going right-to-left so the left winger is often the favoured. Fullbacks have also become major try scorers though it should be noted that Tom Trbojevic was the only fullback in 2021 to finish in the Top 12 try scorers.

The Top 12 try scorers in 2021 were made up of eight wingers, one fullback, one centre, one five-eighth and one edge forward.

Edge forwards are typically where value lies in try scorers, quickly followed by running halves. Identifying these players can be hugely profitable. David Fifita, Sitili Tupouniua, Angus Crichton and Villiame Kikau all scored nine or more tries last year as edge forwards while Cody Walker, Nathan Cleary, Adam Doueihi and Jahrome Hughes were all halves who exceeded that number.
