Division Winner
Bryce Young has shaped as being an all time bust given the bounty the Panthers gave up to move up and draft him at number one in the 2023 draft.
There were signs in the second half of last season though that the Alabama product might yet make it in the NFL. After beginning his career 2-16, Young was benched after two weeks of the 2024 season.
Following an injury to Andy Dalton, he returned in Week 8 and went 4-6 in the last ten games of the season, passing for 2104 yards, 15 touchdowns and 6 picks in that time.
If Young can continue his ascent, he should have a better defence on the other side of the ball, because the Panthers can’t be that bad again, having ranked 32nd for yards and points last season.
The rest of NFC South shouldn’t scare those wanting to be an upset. Tampa, with Baker Mayfield at QB and Todd Bowles as head coach, are entitled to be division favourites but we know what their ceiling is. Atlanta are still rebuilding with the millstone of Kirk Cousins contract around their neck. And the Saints will be vying for the number one pick.
The Panthers are great value to claim their first division title since 2015.
Season Wins Over/Under
It’s hard to overstate how dire the Saints roster is. They are in salary cap hell. They are starting Spencer Rattler (0-6 career record) at quarterback. Their two best defensive players are aged 36. Things will be bad enough if they stay healthy, if injuries hit, we could be looking at the worst team in professional football.
Player Prop
Mayfield is probably the best quarterback in the NFC South but he is also prone to turnovers. From 103 career starts, he has thrown 90 picks. Unlike the other quarterbacks in this division, he is highly unlikely to be benched even if he does have a bad run with interceptions. The NFL joint leader last season, he is a great bet to ‘win’ this award once again.
