Division Winner
As soon as the Packers traded for star pass rusher Mich Parsons, the betting in the division changed to show Green Bay as the new favourites to win the North. But let’s pump the brakes a little.
The Lions last year were an absolute juggernaut. They went 15-2 in the regular season and set all kinds of scoring records. It was only in the playoffs, once they had lost nearly their entire starting defence to injuries, that they slowed down.
A fully fit Lions team remains the benchmark in the Division.
The Packers are doubtless a big threat, and the addition of Parsons is a significant one. They still need to prove they can beat the Lions though, who swept them in last year’s games.
The Vikings and Bears both have exciting young quaterbacks in JJ McCarthy and Caleb Williams. A breakout season from either of those could easily make this into a three cornered contest for the division.
Either way it will be worth watching, but the Lions remain the team to beat.
Season Wins Over/Under
It’s easy to forget given their ignominious playoff exit but the Vikings did win 14 games last season with Sam Darnold at quarterback. Whatever you think of JJ McCarthy, Kevin O’Connell is one of the best offensive minds in the league and they should be able to put up points. The key defensive weakness last year was the defensive interior and it should be a strength now with Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen signed in free agency. Despite a tough division, they should clear this number comfortably.
Player Prop
Before Aidan Hutchinson went down in Week 5 last season he already had 7.5 sacks to his name – in other words, he was on track to break the all time NFL sack record of 22.5. If he returns in anything like the same form this season, he is a shoe in to win this award.
