When Atlanta faced the Magic in Orlando a week ago in a must-win contest for both teams with the division on the line, this provided an insight into Quin Snyder’s minutes structure in big games – and without Clint Capela, he could barely take Onyeka Okongwu off the court.
Okongwu played 40 minutes, and he certainly repaid the faith – he finished with a season-high 30 points to go with 14 rebounds.
I expect Orlando to get the ball out of Trae Young’s hands early, so expect Okongwu to be very active in this Atlanta offense as a short-roller, while he also showed he’s more than capable popping out knocking down four triples last time they met.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Golden State Warriors (12:00pm)
Unsure whether it’s the new coach implementing a slightly different style for Memphis, but Zach Edey has had a nice run leading into the playoffs.
Tuomas Iisalo has been more inclined to play Edey from a small sample size – in eight games, Edey’s minutes per game has been at 27.9 per game, well up from the 20.6 minutes per game under Taylor Jenkins. Although Edey’s points per game are almost identical, his rebounds have jumped from 7.6 per game to 13.4 per game.
The Warriors and Grizzles met less than two weeks ago, and with Iisalo at the helm Memphis were more than happy to go big against the small-ball Golden State line-up. Edey played 32 minutes, finishing with 10 points and 16 rebounds – more importantly, Memphis were +13 when he was on the floor. In the 16 minutes Edey was off in that game, the Grizzlies went -22 resulting in a 9-point loss.
You would have to think based on these numbers, there’s a role for the rookie big man in this play-in match with both teams trying to avoid the Thunder in the first-round.
