A few breakout candidates have flown under the radar to start the season while De’Aaron Fox’s assist numbers have been strong so far this season with the acquisition of DeMar DeRozan.
Best Bet
Portland Trail Blazers @ Sacramento Kings (1:10pm)
It’s a small sample size and his minutes are through the roof at the moment with the Kings looking to secure their first win of the season, but I expect De’Aaron Fox’s assists to stay reasonably high in this clash against the Trail Blazers.
Fox has recorded two 10+ assist games to start the season and it’s likely due to the additional scoring punch provided by DeMar DeRozan.
The Kings Point Guard did average 6.1 assists in the last 31 games of last season which makes this line of 5.5 extremely low against a Portland team that’s not very good entering Sacramento off no rest – so the minutes will be down for Fox in what will likely be a blowout, but he still hits this.
8+ at $3.50 and 10+ at $7 are also worth taking in case Portland can challenge the Kings for long enough.
SGM – Kings 11+ / DeRozan 20+ Points / Fox 6+ Assists = $4.20
Next Best
Houston Rockets @ San Antonio Spurs (1:10pm)
Things have fallen in place nicely for Jeremy Sochan and he’s looked great as a result. Coach Pop has taken the ball out of his hands as a point guard with Chris Paul coming in, while the absence of Devin Vassell has given Sochan additional usage on the offensive end.
Sochan averages 17.5 points, 9 rebounds and 2.5 assists for a PRA of 29 per game so far, and will face the Rockets again where he just posted 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists.
He’s currently the second-string to Wemby on offense for the Spurs, and I expect Sochan to do enough once again to cover this PRA.
SGM – Sochan Over 23.5 PRA / Green 20+ Points / Champagnie 2+ Threes = $4.50
Value Bet
Denver Nuggets @ Toronto Raptors (10:40am)
Really stepped up in Immanuel Quickley’s absence for the Raptors, coming off a 25-point effort against the Timberwolves last start.
Finished last season strong too as a rookie, averaging 15 points per game from his last 12 in an injury depleted Toronto team.
Nothing has changed on the injury front this season, with Dick averaging 22.7 points per 36 minutes without Quickley on floor and just 15.2 points per 36 minutes in the 14 minutes they played together this season. Someone has to score for the Raptors, and Dick may be the only pure scorer they’ve got left if Barrett is still out.
SGM – Dick Over 13.5 Points / Braun 10+ Points / Poeltl 8+ Rebounds = $5.00
