We return from the All Star break with just the one game with a bit of recent history surrounding this match-up – the Hornets and Lakers will face off for the first time since the rescinded Williams-Knecht trade!
Charlotte Hornets @ LA Lakers (2:10pm)
Best Bet
We took Luka PRA unders in his last start prior to the All Star break against Utah, and he fell short by 15.5 with just 16 / 4 / 4.
Minutes restriction might be loosened slightly here, but I really doubt it against the rabble that is Charlotte.
I expect the Lakers to do the majority of their grunt-work early in this in what should be a major blowout, with this Hornets outfit winning just one of their last ten games. As a result, Luka probably plays 25-27 minutes as JJ Redick eases him into the mix, which makes the PRA of 40.5 far too high.
Value Bet
Last time LA played the Hornets a few weeks back they really exposed Charlotte’s defensive struggles at the centre position, with AD finishing with 42 points and 23 rebounds in a masterclass.
Jaxson Hayes also played back-up minutes that game – 16 in total, managing 9 points.
With Hayes starting at Centre for the Lakers off the back of the AD-Luka trade, those minutes will certainly be in the 20s if he can stay out of foul trouble, where he will go head-to-head with Mark Williams – the Hornet that was supposed to be traded to LA taking Hayes’ starting spot.
Think we’ll see a big statement by Hayes in this with 10+ points very achievable against Charlotte.
SGM – Hayes Over 8.5 Points / Luka Under 40.5 PRA / Lamelo 6+ Assists / Lakers = $6.00
