After a quiet Wednesday fixture, the NBA is back in full swing on Thursday with 13 matches, including a mouthwatering season-first clash between Boston and Phoenix.
Best Bet
Celtics @ Suns (2:00pm)
The visitors look the pick in a battle of the east and west’s top seeds given Boston’s brilliant recent record against quality opposition.
The Celtics are clearly the NBA’s hottest team, having won 16 of their last 18 and their last ten games against teams with a winning record, including victories over the Kings, Mavs, Pels, Hawks and Nuggets.
The Suns, meanwhile, are coming off a 19-point loss to the Mavs with Devin Booker battling his way to just 11 points off 4-from-13 from the field. While Chris Paul has been upgraded to questionable for this clash, don’t expect too much from him in his first game in a month if he does play.
Boston have covered in 12 of their last 15 and should be too much for Phoenix here.
Next Best
Warriors @ Jazz (1:00pm)
The injury-hit Warriors are back on the road after a three-game stretch in San Francisco, which presents another opportunity to cash in on their abysmal away record this season.
Steve Kerr’s team have the NBA’s worst ATS record this season, covering the line in just 2 of 12 away from Chase Center. Their +/- against the spread is an extraordinary bad -10.3, again dead last in the league and more than four points worse than the 29th ranked Grizzlies. The Dubs’ average losing margin on the road is 18.6 points.
With Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins all ruled out of this match, a 6.5 point line looks a very likely cover for Utah.
Value Bet
Pistons @ Pelicans (12:00pm)
The Pelicans are rolling off the back of Zion Williamson’s brilliant form, going an equal league-high 8-2 over their last 10 to rocket into the two-seed in the west.
Underscoring this hot streak is their brilliant form at the Smoothie King Center, where they have won eight straight as favourites, covering the spread in seven of these games.
Willie Green’s team is also beating up on poor teams, which the Pistons undoubtedly are, covering in five of the last six against teams with a losing record. Five of their last six wins have come by 11+ points.
While Detroit are a respectable 3-3 ATS off no rest this season, expect the Pelicans to continue their great run with a very comfortable win.
