56 wins in 2023-24, but just 49 last season for the Timberwolves which is why we get somewhat of a low-ish line for a team that is a legitimate Western Conference contender.
Minnesota started last season so poorly, where they were 17-17 in early January and well outside the playoff picture – but from January 5 onwards, they had the fifth best win percentage in the NBA with a 32-16 record, and the third best net rating in the league during this period.
The slow start could have been due to implementing Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo into their system just before the season started, but they won’t have that issue this season and I think we’ll see a bounce back from the Timberwolves.
Under
There’s no team in the Northwest that I really think is an unders bet – but if I had to choose, it would be Portland.
Key factors behind this are how strong the Western Conference is – there’s probably five teams you can pencil in for 50+ wins, while another three that will hover around the mid 40s. Portland is in the next bracket with a fairly broad win-range varying from 30 to as high as 38.
But based on what they’ve done under Chauncy Billups, you’d have to lean to the unders. They’ve got the depth and some potential trade assets in Jrue Holiday and Jerami Grant, but there’s no obvious standouts for the Blazers offensively.
A tricky line, which probably comes down to how teams in their bracket are performing and whether they can make the play-in post All Star break.
Division Winner
Another one we lock into our multis. They’re simply just too good and too deep where even if they go under their total wins line of 62.5, it will be marginal where they’ll still record 60+ wins and still be the one-seed in the West.
Jalen Williams injured leading into the season isn’t ideal, but they’ve proven time and time again that the next guy off the bench will step up and they’ll lose nothing.
The Nuggets will challenge them, but there’s no way OKC isn’t the one-seed heading into the post-season.
