NBA All-Star Three Point Contest
With the All-Star game now split into multiple teams and with multiple games, there is a high chance that the three-point contest will be the main event of the weekend. A huge list of stars including Booker, Mitchell, Murray, a rookie sniper in Kon Knueppel and two-time 3-point champ Damian Lillard, who will compete despite missing the entire season through injury.
I’m questioning Lillard’s ability to get through all the shots, round after round, as he is still rehabbing a torn Achillies and will have lower than regular fitness.
The rookie Knueppel has shown his shooting ability so far this season, shooting the three at 42.9% on a large volume of 7.8 attempts per game. Jamal Murray is also shooting a high volume at the moment and has that clutch gene required for this sort of contest.
Prediction: Jamal Murray $6.00. It’s a great field of shooters; Murray might go after it for another dot point on his resume. Knueppel beaten just, nerves getting the better of the youngster.
NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest
The dunk contest is on a downward trajectory in popularity and has lost all of its momentum, created by Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine back in 2016.
This year’s contestants are far from a who’s who of NBA talent and to the average hoops fan, you won’t know any of them. Jaxson Hayes has dunk contest history, winning the Ohio-Kentucky Dunk Contest, as a senior in high school. Keshad Johnson and Carter Bryant are former Arizona Wildcat teammates and both impressive athletes and Jase Richardson is the son of former 2003 Dunk Contest winner Jason Richardson.
I think Hayes will lose points due to his height as the taller dunkers can sometimes seem less impressive, Jase Richardson will have creative narrative with his father odds on for an assist dunk, but I think Keshad Johnson has the best chance if he can get creative utilising his explosive power and one-handed dunks.

NBA All-Star Game
The All-Star game format has completely changed yet again, with this years all-stars split across three teams, to compete in a tri series mini tournament.
Team World will feature the best international players including Victor Wembanyama and Nikola Jokic, Team USA Stripes will include the NBA’s best American superstars like Durant and LeBron James and last but not least its Team USA Stars, filled with the best up and coming future stars from America.
The Stars have a great mix of athletes and a few guys who can’t turn off that competitive edge. An injured Anthony Edwards might be their Achillies heel. The World are playing for bragging rights, but I don’t think this format is best suited to their style of players. I’m going to back the USA Stripes who have the experienced players who will get their quick score, then back off hoping not to get injured and rely on a few younger guys who will be gunning for that MVP accolade. NBA All-Star Game MVP Award
A proven competitor in this format, with multiple 35+ point games in 2023 and 2024. He has established himself as a superstar this season and won’t hesitate about hogging the ball. It also helps if he can be on the winning side, as we saw Towns drop 50 points in a losing side for no awards.
