The best tournament matchup bets for the 2022 PGA Championship.
Hideki Matsuyma v Dustin Johnson
Matsuyama ranks 3rd in Ball Striking and 2nd in Proximity from 200+ Yards, both key guides to the PGA Championship. Johnson is also strong with his long irons but his form ball striking has fallen away badly.
Jason Day v Daniel Berger
Daniel Berger is a major lay this week given his lack of distance from the tee. 2015 winner Jason Day is finally rediscovering some of his best golf thanks to a change in diet and setup. Day’s form at Pebble Beach suggests Southern Hills will suit.
Jhonattan Vegas v Mito Pereira
Young Chilean Mito Pereira is one of the better rough hopes this week. He ranks Top 15 in Strokes Gained: Approach and Scrambling. Vegas has missed seven of 11 major cuts and not made it inside the Top 35.
Shane Lowry v Joaquin Niemann
Lowry is masterful around the greens and is as creative a player as there is on Tour. In his last 11 majors he has a win and three Top 8 finishes while he has just three finishes outside the Top 25. Niemann’s best finish in a major is 23rd.
