The 124th staging of the US Open takes place at the iconic Pinehurst No.2, designed by Donald Ross and one of the stiffest tests in golf with only three scores under par in the three previous stagings of the event at the famous course.
Best Bet
Scheffler is golfing in rarefied air at the moment with only peak-Tiger having a better run. In his last eight tournaments, he has five wins, two seconds and an 8th after being arrested in the lead-up to his second round at the PGA Championship. He is the best golfer in the world and it is not even close. Of the eight key stats, Scheffler leads the Tour in Putting Average, Bogey Avoidance, Birdies, GIR and Strokes Gained: Tee To Green while he is Top 8 in the other three. He finished 2nd at Oak Hill in 2023, the top guide, while Florida form is critical and he has won the last two Players Championships and the most recent Arnold Palmer Invitational. He will be in the mix the entire way.
Mid-Tier Bet
Aberg’s rise has been nothing short of astonishing. He won a Ryder Cup before he had played a major, ran 2nd at The Masters on his major debut and has PGA Tour wins under his belt. He ranks 3rd in Total Driving and 8th in Bogey Avoidance and can contend on natural talent alone.
Value Bet
Putting on the Pinehurst No.2 greens is as difficult as it gets and the ability to handle the speedy, sloped greens will be key. Smith is the best putter in the world and the best long putter in the world. If he can keep his driving somewhat straight, his record in majors puts him in contention here.
Longshot Bet
A quality short game is going to be essential at Pinehurst No.2 and there is no better scrambler than Noren. The Swede leads the Tour in Scrambling while he ranks 3rd in Bogey Avoidance, 5th in GIR and 11th in Strokes Gained: Tee To Green. Playing too good to leave out.
