The time-honoured Solheim Cup takes place this weekend from Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia with the US favoured, perhaps too favoured.
Winner
Team Europe seem an obscene price given they have lifted the trophy at five of the last seven Solheim Cups, including the last three. They won 15-13 at Inverness in 2021 and 18-10 at Colorado Golf Club in 2023. The US have a talent advantage with five Top 25 players against just two from Europe but as always the better camaraderie and setup of the Europeans will get them closer than talent dictates.
Top European Points Scorer
Leona Maguire has been stunning in two Solheim Cups with a 7-3-1 record including her heroics at Inverness, where she claimed 4.5 points to break the all-time rookie scoring record. She has enjoyed a strong season and looks set to be one of Europe’s best.
Top USA Points Scorer
Lauren Coughlin has been the hottest player on the planet the last two months. The No.14 has won twice in August and had a big year in the majors with two Top 4 finishes. She is great value to top the list for the USA.
Day 1 Foursomes Winner
Always happy to be with Europe in either the Ryder Cup or the Solheim Cup when it comes to foursomes as they seem much more willing and flexible to fit the format. The last Solheim Cup on US soil saw the Europeans win the foursomes 3.5 to 0.5.
