New Zealand arguably should have won their opening game, but they now need to regroup to face Egypt, who also had an opening game draw. Egypt are the $1.60 favourites to hand New Zealand their first loss in the last two World Cups.

The odds aren’t huge for our best bet, but we recommend including Egypt in your World Cup football bets this week.

They scored a 1-1 draw with Belgium in their opening game, which was a solid effort against a tough team. Their confidence levels should be high after that effort, and it puts them in a good position to qualify for the Round of 32.

New Zealand played well to score a 2-2 draw against Iran. However, their defence looked susceptible, and Iran came into the match without much of a preparation. NZ should have won, but if they defend like that against Egypt, the score could be one-sided.

We have Egypt scoring a win over the All Whites, and although we would have loved $1.80-$1.90, the current odds are fair considering the difference in their world rankings.

Mo Salah is still one of the best strikers in the world, and we can’t see New Zealand’s defence holding him out. He has three goals from his last four games, and he will get plenty of opportunities to score on Monday.

Punters get big odds for Egypt to win 3-1, and although it’s a tough option to correctly predict, the odds make it a worthwhile bet.
