This is about as big of a mismatch as we will see this tournament.

Curacao is the smallest nation to ever qualify for the Cup, with approximately 185,000 in population. The fact that they have even made it this far is a testament to their love of football. This will be their first game of the tournament, and they will make history just by stepping on the field. The debut for the nation at any World Cup and the biggest match in their nations footballing history.

Unfortunately for them, they get the big fish of Group E straight up, to welcome them to this level. Germany are currently the 10^th FIFA ranked nation and an international powerhouse of football.

The Germans are one of my roughies to win the whole tournament, with solid wins against Slovakia, Switzerland, Finland and the US in the lead up. With the eyes of a debut nation watching, I hope it doesn’t get too ugly.

The Germans will not be in a charitable mood after group stage exits have plagued the recent German World Cup campaigns.

I predict a fast start from the favourites and 45 minutes is plenty of time to not only register a score but potentially put the game beyond doubt.

This really is a different class and unfortunately for Curacao, I just can’t see them keeping the Germans out of their net.

Anything is possible in a football match and sometimes the World Cup can throw us a few surprises, however I can’t see Curacao scoring and the little kicker it adds to this multi, is too good to ignore.

The goals handicap line sits at 3.0, so taking the Overs at 2.5 is the obvious play, unless you can see the debutants parking the bus and stopping a German front for 90 minutes.

The Germans should retain the bulk of the possession and Curacao will only attack in spurts. Due to this, someone like Havertz could play a big part in this match. The Arsenal product has big hopes coming into this tournament and will look to step up and take over as the main threat, from the likes of Musiala and Wirtz.

I know, I know, stop ganging up on the World Cup debutant but seriously, this is very lopsided on paper.

The Germans don’t really need to push the score up this high, with the rest of Group E not threatening the four-time World Cup champions. That shouldn’t stop them though and even if they pull a few of the stars early, the second flood of players are still good enough to score against Curacao.

With German fans having eight hard years to think about the back-to-back group stage exits, the team would be keen to redeem themselves here and open the tournament with a message to the competition.
