Cape Verde vs Saudi Arabia Preview
One of the groups that remains wide open, with Spain the only team to register a win so far. Cape Verde have the two draws, so they are slightly ahead of Saudi Arabia, but a win here changes everything.
Cape Verde will head in as ever so slight favourites, but this really is an even match up. Saudi Arabia would be disappointed leaking five goals to opposition so far, their form against highly ranked sides coming into the World Cup was good with a close game with Ecuador followed by a draw with Senegal.
Best Bet

Saudi Arabia has had a bit of a nightmare this World Cup, losing to Spain and splitting the points with Uruguay. This is the game they would have circled in the group stage as their big chance.
The 3-0 win over Puerto Rico at the start of June shows them at their best, but they are more known for a low scoring slog of a game. Both teams should need a win, not a draw, to advance so we shouldn’t see the same timid approach that we have over the last couple of days, from teams in a comfortable position.
Saudi Arabia have only managed one goal for the tournament, but their offence has been there, without success. They were completely outclassed by Spain, but against Uruguay they had three genuine shots on goal. They should stay within a goal of Cape Verde and can definitely win this match.
Same Game Multi Bet

We have seen the final games in the group stage played a bit differently from the start of the tournament. Teams who won early have started to rest and manage key players and teams that have done enough to qualify are almost happy to play a controlled game, accepting the draw.
The first halves especially have been much tighter, with games like Japan v Sweden opening up in the second half. I think this game plays out very similar, with the exception that both these teams need a win. They won’t want to concede early, making defence paramount.
Value Bet

The Saudi’s can still advance with a win, but a draw won’t cut it. They should be desperate and a notoriously defensive team will need to shift up a gear. They usually rely on the counterattack through Al-Dawsari and Al-Buraikan, but that might not be the strategy in this match.
I’m not convinced with Cabo Verde, their two goals against Uruguay both came from fortunate resources rather than teamwork or brilliance. A free kick from well outside the box which Uruguay defended poorly. The keeper saw it too late and was slow to react. The second goal was from an ugly bit of defence where Uruguay tried to cross the ball in the middle of their own defensive half, the goalkeeper went on an almighty run out of goal. A horrendous bit of goalkeeping, leaving the net wide open.
If the Green Falcons gift Cape Verde a goal then sure, they will capitalise, but I haven’t seen them create enough of their scoring chances.
