KKR’s home advantage at Eden Gardens is the decisive factor here, backed by a head-to-head record that gives SRH little reason for confidence on this ground.
KKR lead the all-time series 20-10 across 30 meetings, and at Eden Gardens their dominance is even more pronounced with eight wins from 11. Last season they beat SRH by 80 runs at this venue, bowling them out for 120 chasing 201 with Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora sharing six wickets between them.
Both bowling attacks were ordinary in round one, but KKR’s spin combination of Narine and Varun represents a genuine threat in familiar conditions. No bowler has more T20 wickets at Eden Gardens than Narine, and Varun is fourth on that list with 34 in 24 games. Against an SRH top order known to attack spin, they will fancy their chances of taking early wickets on their home deck.
SRH remain without Pat Cummins and Brydon Carse is unlikely to play with a hand injury, leaving them with a pace attack of Unadkat, Harshal Patel and David Payne, all of whom rely on cutters and variations rather than genuine pace. That will be tested by Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane, who have both shown they can attack from ball one.

He already showed his intent with a 17-ball 37 on IPL debut against MI, and Eden Gardens holds special memories after his unbeaten 33-ball century here in the T20 World Cup semi-final last month. Against an SRH attack missing genuine pace, he could go very large here again.

Klaasen has a remarkable record against KKR’s spin duo. He has never been dismissed by Narine in eight T20 innings and has struck Varun at a strike rate of 211 across 53 balls. On a surface where KKR will look to their spinners to do damage in the middle overs, Klaasen is perfectly equipped to neutralise their biggest threat.
