The first Sydney Smash for BBL 15 sees the Sixers head to western Sydney to take on the Thunder.
Head to Head
The market can’t split the two Sydney teams for the derby so we’ll back the strongest trend in BBL cricket.
The Big Bash has been dominated by teams batting second recently, with seven of the last eight winning, including the last four. Of course, that also includes the Heat chasing 257 in last night’s remarkable match in Brisbane.
Otherwise, there’s cases for and against each of these teams. The typically reliable Sixers have now lost their last four games with their bowling, in particular, looking thin early in the season. Veteran Kane Richardson will play his first game for the magenta team tonight after just six wickets in seven games last season with the ‘Gades.
The Thunder will be buoyed by David Warner’s return, along with spinner Tom Andrews who impressed last season. They’ll get the home ground advantage here, which has proven decisive in six of the last seven BBL matches.
The Sixers have dominated this match-up, winning 18 of 26, including six of the last seven.
If you have to pick a team here, wait until the toss and take the team batting last.
Best Bet
The keeper/batter has looked terrific early in BBL 15, with returns of 46 and 28 runs from his first two innings. He averages 22 against the Thunder, with a 35 and 47 in his last three innings against the crosstown rival.
Value Bet
The former Australian Test opener is a very consistent BBL player and enjoys the derby, hitting 50+ in his last two against the Sixers. He also has a good record at ENGIE Stadium, hitting 30+ in six of nine knocks.
