It’s a must-win match for the typically dominant Perth Scorchers when they travel to Sydney to face the Thunder.
Head to Head
Even with their injury issues it’s surprising to see the Thunder as underdogs here.
The Thunder are the only team with a winning record over the five-time champions, winning 10 of 19 including four of the last six and their only meeting this season.
After a great start to their season, the home side have lost their last two. That’s coincided with their availability woes following Cam Bancroft and Daniel Sams’ sickening collision, plus an injury to Jason Sangha. Tanveer Sangha will return for this match.
The Scorchers are set to be hit too with Jhye Richardson ruled out of the rest of the tournament with a shoulder injury. Mitch Marsh also remains out for the visitors.
The five-time champs have now lost their last three games to be on the verge of missing their first finals series since BBL 09. Their batting has been too inconsistent, with both Aaron Hardie and Finn Allen underperforming so far, and the lower order lacking some power hitters.
Underdogs have a good record in this match-up, winning eight of 13, and the Thunder can pull off the upset here.
Best Bet
The young gun has been a standout this season, currently sitting second for most runs in BBL 14. He’s scored 25+ runs in five of his last six knocks, including a 43* against the Thunder.
Value Bet
We are chips in Warner in this match. The former Australian opener has scored 50+ in three of his last four knocks and a 49 in his other innings (against the Scorchers). He should enjoy the extra pace on the bat from Behrendorff and Morris and bring up another big tally.
