The Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars kick off the new Big Bash season in Perth on Sunday night.
Head to Head
The Scorchers’ record at home is sensational and they are impossible to bet against given the Stars’ awful last few seasons.
Perth have won an extraordinary 26 of their last 30 games at Optus, including 11 of their last 13 day games.
Gun Kiwi recruit Finn Allen will only help the Scorchers return to the final this season after they missed for the first time in four years in BBL 13.
The Stars are missing their big match-winner in Glenn Maxwell, and while Tom Curran and Ben Duckett are good inclusions, it’s hard to see them losing the perennial underachievers tag they’ve carried for many years this season.
The green team have lost each of their seven day matches and don’t seem likely to challenge the league’s strongest franchise.
Best Best
Allen is a top 20 ranked T20 batter and enters his first BBL season off three straight 30+ scores in Abu Dhabi. Should show his class early against this ordinary Stars attack.
Value Bet
An angle we played regularly last year was backing Cartwright for a decent score after the Stars top order crumbled. He’s top scored for the Stars in three of his last five away matches and last two against the Scorchers.
