BBL 14 Tips – Melbourne Stars v Hobart Hurricanes

Marcus Stoinis

It’s win and you’re in for the Melbourne Stars when they host the Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG in the final regular season match of BBL 14 on Sunday night.

Head to Head

The Stars have been a hard team to trust for many years but we’ll back them in here to win their way into the Big Bash finals.

Both teams enter this match on impressive winning streaks, with the home side winning four straight and the Hurricanes seven straight. The Stars also have a good record in this match-up, winning 13 of 21 overall – their second-best record of any opponent.

While they have lost their leading run scorer Ben Duckett for this match, their thin bowling stocks get a welcome boost in the form of another Englishman, Tom Curran. The Hurricanes have named both Ben McDermott and Chris Jordan to return but with their top spot cemented on the table there must be some doubt that they play.

Keep in mind that teams batting second have won nine of the last 11 at the MCG, but that aside, we’ll hold our breath and back the Stars to show some backbone in this one.

Best Bet

Sam Harper
Under 16.5 Runs

Harper must be a lovely fella because his BBL record is appalling over the last few years. The Stars keeper has scored 20+ runs in just two of his last 14 knocks. On form, his runs line should be in single digits but we are getting 16.5.

Value Bet

Glenn Maxwell
50+ Runs

This feels like a Glenn Maxwell game. The ‘Big Show’ has been a key factor in the Stars’ resurgence, posting 50s in each of his last two knocks. He also has a great record against the ‘Canes, averaging over 60 in 16 innings.
