AFL Tips – Western Bulldogs v Geelong – Round 4 2024

Bulldogs vs Cats - AFL Tips

The Dogs are looking for consecutive wins over the Cats for the first time since 2006 when they meet on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.

Head to Head

Geelong’s midfield weakness should finally come back to bite them.

The Cats have lost clearances and contested possession counts in all three games this season which is fine when you are playing the likes of St. Kilda, Hawthorn and Adelaide, but against a side in the Dogs which has the ability to hurt them, it’s a big disadvantage to try and overcome.

While Geelong were able to contain the Saints on the narrowly shaped Kardinia Park, they also lost the inside 50 count – heavily – to Hawthorn and the Crows.

There is a huge gap in experience and class between the two midfields which is exacerbated by the continuing absence of Patrick Dangerfield and Cameron Guthrie for the Cats.

Western got beaten badly by the Dees last week but their two subsequent performances – particularly the dismantling of the Suns – were most impressive, with their elite midfield unit leading the way.

Geelong have plenty of firepower in the forward line and their defence is one of the best in the league. But their midfield issues should be too much to overcome in what should be a cracking game.

Bulldogs Win, Treloar 30+ Disposals, Liberatore, Stewart 25+ Disposals

No need to overthink this one. With the midfield edge, the prime movers for the Dogs – Tom Liberatore and Adam Treloar – should be heavily involved. Libba was quieter last week but has had 28 or more in his last five against the Cats.

For the Cats, Tom Stewart is in superb form and he should get enough opportunities in the their defence.

Adam Treloar

The Cats allowed 36 to James Worpel last week and 37 to Matt Crouch the week prior. Treloar is absolutely a candidate to hit this number again.
