Best Bet
Essendon have won five of their last six but this is a serious step up in class.
Their season has been pretty easy to analyse. They’ve been good against bad teams, and awful against good teams. Their five wins have come against teams ranked 18th, 17th 15th, 14th and 13th, while their three losses have come against teams ranked 2nd, 3rd and 5th (by an average of 43 points).
The Bulldogs are clearly in that top-tier group. Even with a long injury list they sit sixth after nine rounds with a percentage of 122.
Their midfield has been dominant, ranking top four for clearances, contested possessions and scores from stoppage. Essendon sit in the bottom eight for all three of these categories.
The favourite has covered in six of the Dogs’ last seven and they should do so again here.
Same Game Multi
Nic Martin loves playing at Marvel, racking up 30+ in three of his last four at the venue.
Lachie McNeil has scored a goal in eight straight games, while Matt Kennedy has kicked eight in his last five.
Value Bet
Matt Kennedy has been one of the recruits of the season, and continues to be a more than handy marking forward in the absence of Darcy and Ugle-Hagan. He’s kicked 2+ goals in three of his last four games.
