The flag favourite Giants head west on Sunday to take on the Eagles at Optus Stadium. It’s going to get ugly.

There was some misguided pre-season hope that West Coast won’t be as bad this year.
That hope will be crushed on Sunday.
This is essentially the same Eagles list that finished dead last with a percentage of 53 last year and yet again, injuries are smashing this team with undoubtedly their most important player (and only reliable avenue to goal) Oscar Allen going down with a knee injury.
For context, Allen kicked 53 goals last year, 27 ahead of Jack Darling, the same Jack Darling who had one kick for one goal last week and will face Sam Taylor, arguably the league’s best key defender, in this match-up.
The Giants played with their food in their 39-point win over North last week, with expected scoring projecting a 75-point margin had they kicked straighter. The Roos look a far more competitive, or at least healthier, prospect than the Eagles in 2024.
West Coast weren’t much better at home than away last year, only covering in four of 13 at Optus. They lost both games at home against top four teams by an average of 63 points.
GWS will win this by as much as they can be bothered winning it by. If they’re on, it will be triple figures and we could be reaching for the record books.
Same Game Multi
The Giants’ key forwards are going to have a day out.
Charlie Dixon kicked 3.3 last week against the Eagles and should have kicked at least six in a rusty effort. Jesse Hogan has 10 in two weeks, while Riccardi booted three last week and Cadman has two in each of his two games.
Tom Green has recorded 30+ in four of his last five while Lachie Whitfield has had 25+ in eight straight.
