Two teams heading in very different directions meet at the SCG on Friday night, and the gap between them looks larger than it has all season.
Best Bet
The home side have to be the pick here, even at the big line.
Sydney have looked unstoppable since their Opening Round loss to Hawthorn, winning eight straight and covering in seven. They could regain both Charlie Curnow and Tom McCartin for this one, which would make them even more formidable.
Collingwood’s injury toll is going the other way. They lose Darcy Moore, Scott Pendlebury, Darcy Cameron and Pat Lipinski for this one, gutting all areas of the ground. We’ve seen previously that the Pies don’t have the depth to cover any significant injuries. Last week’s hammering by Geelong was the biggest sign yet that this aging team could be heading off a cliff.
Nick Daicos had his least impactful game of the season last week against Oisin Mullin and will surely attract attention from James Jordan this week. He averages the second fewest disposals of any team when facing Sydney.
Collingwood were also unable to contain Geelong’s forward handball game last week and no team employs that tactic better than the Swans.
A big margin looks very much on the cards here.
Same Game Multi
Half-backs continue to fill up against Collingwood and Nick Blakey has hit the 25-disposal mark in three of his last four games.
Logan McDonald plays like a big flanker despite his height and Collingwood struggle to defend that profile. He has kicked three in each of his last two games.
Value Bet
The half-back versus Collingwood angle is the best player prop going right now and Blakey should be the biggest beneficiary with Matt Roberts missing. He had 29 two weeks ago and 30 is well within reach here, with 35 not out of the question either. Great bet.
