AFL Tips – Sydney v Brisbane Lions – Round 1 2025

The Grand Final rematch sees the 0-1 Swans host the Brisbane Lions at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

Best Bet

Brisbane -3.5
Margin

The Lions embarrassed the Swans on Grand Final day last year, and while the margin might not be as big this time, the visitors are still the bet.

Sydney was underwhelming in their 2025 opener against Hawthorn, especially around the contest, losing clearances 48-32. Brisbane was the No. 1 clearance team in the competition last year, so the Swans will need far more intent if they want to be competitive.

Brisbane showed no signs of a premiership hangover in their pre-season hit-out against Adelaide, pushing the Crows in a high-quality game before falling by just three points. Aside from the retired Joe Daniher, they should be able to name their entire premiership-winning side for Saturday. Sydney, meanwhile, will be without Errol Gulden, Callum Mills, and Logan McDonald from their Grand Final team.

The away team has covered the line in the last six meetings between these sides, and the Lions should prove too strong once again.

Same Game Multi

Brisbane -3.5, K.Lohmann 2+ Goals, C.Ah Chee Anytime Goal, M.Roberts 20+ Disposals

Lohmann kicked two in four of his last five games last season while Ah Chee kicked 10 in his last four.

Matt Roberts is being used far more as a distributor by the Swans so far this season and had 26 last week.

Value Bet

Kai Lohmann
3+ Goals

Lohmann looks like he could take the mantle as Brisbane’s number one small forward in 2025 after a red hot end to last season. He kicked 2.3 in the Adelaide praccy match after four in last year’s Grand Final.
