AFL Tips – Richmond v St Kilda – Round 4 2024

Richmond Tigers vs St Kilda Saints - AFL Tips

Richmond and St Kilda both have a single win to their name and will be desperate to get their seasons on track with a win at the Norwood Oval on Sunday.

We liked the under in Roos v Lions at the Norwood Oval and the same rationale that applied to that game also applies here.

The home of the Redlegs in the SANFL is just 100m wide, a full 15m narrower than the already ridiculously slender Kardinia Park.

Looking through SANFL results, this leads to very tight, low-scoring matches with an average total points of just 136 from the last ten games at the venue. Only one team broke the 100 point mark in 2023.

One AFL game was played at Norwood in Gather Round last year, a 77-75 win for the Giants over Hawthorn, with the total of 152 falling a few goals short of the 165 line.

Friday’s game came in under as well, with the final score of 112 – 42 being about 36 points off the final closing line.

Richmond are 2-2 against the under this season while two of St. Kilda’s three games have gone over. But if we know Ross Lyon at all, he will be looking for his side to be far more defensive than they have been so far.

Expect that to start here on this ground that lends itself to low scoring.

One of the other interesting occurrences at Norwood Oval is it seems to result in very high disposal numbers for midfielders in particular.

Tim Taranto and Jack Steele fit the mould for players who can have a big spike in disposal numbers here.

Taranto comes off 35 against the Swans last week and has the capacity to rack up a huge number once again.
